What is New L1?
BNB Chain's new EVM-compatible Layer 1 for fast, latency-sensitive activity, and why it is being built.
Checked against official docs on 2026-10-29
StatusNew L1 runs as a multi-validator devnet. Public testnet and mainnet have not launched. Everything below can still change.
In one sentence
New L1 is a new Layer 1 blockchain in the BNB Chain family, designed for apps where speed and predictable transaction inclusion matter most.
First, what is a Layer 1?
A Layer 1 is a base blockchain: it orders and records its own transactions and secures itself with its own validators. Tokens, apps and wallets are built on top of it. BNB Smart Chain is a Layer 1. New L1 is another one.
What it is designed for
The official overview lists the kinds of activity New L1 targets:
- high-frequency trading
- real-time payments
- confidential finance
- automated, agent-driven activity
All of these need the same things: very fast confirmation, and confidence that a transaction will land where expected.
Why build a new chain?
The docs describe New L1 as a clean-slate design for workloads that BNB Smart Chain may outgrow. Instead of retrofitting an existing chain, it is built from the start around low latency and predictable inclusion, while staying compatible with existing Ethereum-style contracts and tools.
The key ideas at a glance
- Fast blocks. A new block roughly every 200 ms.
- Sub-second finality. Transaction ordering becomes irreversible in well under a second.
- Pre-confirmation. A signal in about 20 ms that your transaction is being included.
- Ordering separate from execution. The chain agrees on order first and runs transactions just after.
- Multi-Lane. Reserved block space for selected latency-sensitive apps.
- Native account abstraction. Smarter accounts built into the protocol.
- Opt-in privacy. A shielded pool for private transfers.
- On-chain governance. Parameters changed by token-weighted votes.
Future targetThe timing figures above are design targets from the official docs, not measured results from a public network.
Is there a new token?
No. The docs state that BNB remains the gas and staking asset, bridged in from BNB Smart Chain, and that no new token is issued. Using New L1 does not involve $TWINZ or any other community token.
