New L1 and BNB Smart Chain
What the two chains share, where they differ, and why one does not replace the other.

Under developmentThe native bridge between BNB Smart Chain and New L1 is still in development and is not live.
Two chains, one family
BNB Smart Chain (BSC) stays the broad, general-purpose chain for the existing ecosystem. New L1 is an additional chain for latency-sensitive activity. The official docs present them side by side, not one replacing the other.
What stays the same
- EVM compatible. Existing Solidity contracts deploy unchanged, and standard tools and wallets connect the same way.
- BNB is the gas asset, bridged in from BSC.
- Same consensus family. Both use Parlia proof-of-staked-authority with BLS fast finality.
- Same staking and governance contracts, at the same addresses as on BSC.
What is different
| BNB Smart Chain | New L1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Block rhythm | Established BSC cadence | Target of about 5 blocks per second |
| Ordering and execution | Done together | Ordered first, executed just after |
| Mempool | Global public mempool | No global mempool; transactions go to the current and next block producers |
| Gas charged | Gas actually used | The gas limit you declare (no refund for unused gas) |
| Fee price | Base fee plus tip | Zero base fee; the priority tip sets the price |
| Reserved capacity | None | Multi-Lane |
| Account abstraction | Via add-on tooling | Built into the protocol |
Why this matters to developers
A few habits from BSC need rethinking on New L1:
- Logic that counts blocks (vesting, auctions, time averages) needs recalculating, because blocks arrive far more often.
- Several blocks can share the same timestamp.
- Don't pad gas limits, because you pay for what you declare.
- Some features are not supported, such as
eth_getProof, EIP-4844 blob transactions and EIP-7702 transactions.
Our analysis (unofficial)For everyday users there is nothing to move or migrate today. New L1 is a developer devnet, and the bridge is not live.
